An original play by Nina Foster, directed by Elizabeth Patterson and sponsored by IPLACe.
With cast members from Can I Poet Jelani Ince, Leah Hart, Solomon Jordan, Billy Nicholson, as well as Justice von Maur and TJ Beeker.
The play was a short one-act play which combined spoken word and devised work with the elements of a straight play for a meditation on the complicated world of interracial relationships.
By using spoken word, the lead character Layla confronts the difficulties of a black woman dating a white male. The show asks questions about race and gender, as Layla struggles with Lane’s family history, including a brother that was at one point in the Klan. This piece encompasses themes of race and humanity drawing on spoken word as the framework for the story.
A talkback and reception followed the performance.
Admission is free.
