TALKING ABOUT SARAH DELAPPE’S THE WOLVES
NOVEMBER 1, 2018
Dr. Christy Buchanan and Dr. Stavroula Glezakos took part in a post-show discussion on Thursday, Nov. 1, following The Wolves. Dr. Glezakos (Philosophy) was currently teaching a course on Philosophy of Love and Friendship. Dr. Buchanan (Psychology, Dean’s Office) has published extensively on adolescent development.
Each offered their response to The Wolves, a play which offers many ways in for these accomplished scholars: Development from childhood to adulthood, friendships among girls, teens developing their awareness of the world and of their own values, pressure to engage in unwanted sexual activity, disordered eating, perfectionism/anxiety connected to school and pressure to achieve, sexism in sport, coping with tragedy with the support of friends, and the tension between being part of a team and wanting to excel as an individual athlete, to name a few!
